The Goalkeeping Academy will be contained within the Minnesota Soccer Residential Academy and will be directed by Gopher Goalkeeping Coach Jerrod Roh. There will be both a technical and tactical emphasis to the program that will cover shot stopping, handling crosses, dealing with breakaways, and distribution. Fundamental segments of training will be accompanied by match-related, competitive goalkeeping activities and games. Overlapping topics such as positioning, footwork, communication, mentality, staying connected to the team, and reading the game will all be covered.
Training time periods will be allotted for goalkeeper specific training, and then goalkeepers will join the field players for finishing exercises, small-sided games, and full-sided games in order to apply concepts covered to live game situations. Goalkeeping staff members will evaluate and assist campers in the application of concepts during these live game situations.
